REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a well-established and effective therapy. It has been used in China, India and Egypt for over 5000 years, and was established in the UK during the 1960s.Practitioners observed that zones on the left hand side of the body corresponded to reflex points on the left foot (and hand) and vice versa.  Reflexologists believe that when there is an ‘imbalance’ in the body granular accumulations of waste matter, in the form of uric acid and calcium crystals, concentrate around reflex point making it feel tender to the touch.  The greater the tenderness the greater the imbalance. Hard skin, corns, bunions and infections can all be interpreted as external manifestations of problems in the corresponding area of the body. There are 7200 nerve endings in the foot so it is no wonder that feet can reflect the health of an individual.

Stress compromises the immune system which can lead to a host of temporary and sometimes more serious diseases. Reflexology counteracts this by inducing total relaxation in the body which then enables it to heal itself. In our modern, hectic lives Reflexology helps to rebalance the body. Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. As well as seeing a Reflexologist for a specific complaint many people find regular treatments very beneficial to maintain health and well-being.

Most people find the sensation pleasant and soothing, although any discomfort may indicate an imbalance. A professionally trained Reflexologist can detect subtle changes in the specific points of the feet and they will either stimulate or sedate the point depending on what the person needs. Pressure is gentle but firm so that even people who suffer from ticklish feet can usual undergo a treatment.
